Canje SR - 3 Logs
The three well logs displayed here provide critical insight into the Albian-Cenomanian-Turonian (ACT) source rocks of the Canje Formation – now widely recognized as the “Mother of most Petroleum in the Guyana-Suriname Basin ” such as in the prolific Golden Lane and near surroundings. These logs, derived from cores at Site 1258 on the Demerara Rise, represent the geochemical foundation of one of the world’s most prolific new petroleum provinces.
These well logs document the remarkable organic richness and thermal maturity that have made the Canje Formation exceptionally productive. The formation developed during a period of global anoxic events approximately 94-100 million years ago, creating ideal conditions for organic matter preservation and subsequent hydrocarbon generation.
The Canje Formation belongs to the same geological family as the renowned La Luna and Querecual Formations in Venezuela and the Naparima Hill and Gautier Formations in Trinidad. This regional correlation confirms the existence of a world-class petroleum system spanning multiple basins across northern South America.
Understanding the characteristics of the Canje source rock as displayed in these logs is critical for:
For explorationists pursuing opportunities in the Guyana-Suriname Basin, these logs provide essential calibration points for basin modeling and prospect evaluation, potentially worth billions in exploration efficiency and success rates.
Kind regards.
