Disclaimer: This represents my own vision and conceptual design of an FLNG in Suriname, Block 52, March 7, 2025.
This as a simple exploration geologist.
As of 25th April 2025 it was announced that Wilson Energies will make the DFS (Detailed Feasibility Study). It is not indicated for which volume of gas and LNG (how much MTPA) the design is, which could vary from 0.6 to 6.0 MTB. This of course depends on the volume of gas present in Sloanea Gas Field, which has not been published.
This Block is indicated to contain some 500 million barrels of oil equivalent.
In addition to a lot of gas. How much? My own best, educated gas.
The block is presently still being explored, but apparently there is enough gas available for a FLNG vessel.
Petronas is expected to present a FID in 2026. May be to also handle abundant gas for Block 58, where some 12 TCF seems to be available.
In Blocks 58 and 52, together some 28 TCF?
This based on my own prognosis based on a burial and petroleum generation modelling I made myself, of this specific area and surroundings. This indicates that the source rock is in very mature, light oil to wet and dry gas kitchen conditions.
It validates my assumptions that this part of the Golden Lane, when first unveiled by the Haimara gas discovery on the Guyana side, represents the very light oil-wet gas-condensate-dry gas area, of what I have called in a previous essay, the “ Greater Suriname Kitchen Area “.
Haimara-1 well, drilled by ExxonMobil in 2019, TD 5575 m, WD 1399 m., discovered a column of 63 m. high quality gas-condensate, with an estimate of some 13 TCF in this area..
In the pristine waters offshore Suriname, where the Atlantic meets South America’s energy frontier, in addition to the Gran Morgu FPSO in Block 58, a groundbreaking Floating LNG (FLNG) facility will follow, both poised to redefine the region’s energy landscape. This concept, born from extensive geological expertise and engineering insight, represents my artist’s impression of a harmonious blend of technological advancement and environmental stewardship.
This digital visualization captures the essence of Block 52 development by Petronas, where cutting-edge technology meets the pristine waters of offshore Suriname. It’s a futuristic interpretation that bridges the gap between complex subsurface geology and innovative surface facilities.
The design philosophy embraces elegant efficiency through a carefully optimized well configuration. The dual manifold system, supported by precisely engineered umbilicals and flowlines, creates a robust yet flexible production network. This arrangement is not just about numbers but about creating the perfect balance between operational efficiency and economic viability.
At the heart of this visualization stands the majestic Floating Liquefied Natural Gas installation—a marvel of modern engineering rendered with both scientific precision and artistic flair. This is not just technical documentation; it’s a visionary interpretation that showcases how deep-water gas resources can be transformed into clean energy.
The subsea architecture features:
The manifolds aggregate the gas and transport it through risers to the FLNG Block 52 facility for processing and liquefaction.
This design isn’t just about extraction—it’s about responsible resource development. The compact footprint and efficient well placement minimize environmental impact while maximizing economic return. The FLNG facility will serve as a floating testament to Suriname’s commitment to sustainable energy development.
Every detail, from the subsea infrastructure to the processing modules, has been thoughtfully rendered to reflect both technical accuracy and environmental consideration. The visualization showcases the harmony between industrial development and the maritime environment.
As Suriname emerges as a key player in the global energy market, this FLNG facility is designed to be adaptable and scalable. The infrastructure accommodates future expansion while maintaining operational integrity from day one.
What makes this visualization unique is its dual perspective, combining the analytical eye of a geologist with artistic sensibility to create a compelling glimpse into Suriname’s energy future. It is a celebration of human ingenuity, technological advancement, and the transformative power of natural resources.
This project represents more than just an energy development, it is an investment in Suriname’s future. The facility will increase local content, create jobs, develop expertise, and position Suriname as a leader in offshore gas development.
Whether you are an energy sector professional, investor, or art enthusiast, this concept offers a fresh perspective on how industrial visualization can be elevated to an art form while maintaining its technical integrity.
